Confidentiality & Privacy Policy
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.
There are important exceptions to confidentiality. They include:
-
Suspected child abuse or dependant adult or elder abuse, for which a psychotherapist is required by law to immediately report this to the appropriate authorities.
-
If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, a psychotherapist must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
-
If a client intends to harm himself or herself, your psychotherapist will make every effort to enlist the client's cooperation to ensure their safety. If the client cannot or will not cooperate, the psychotherapist may take further measures, provided by law to ensure safety, without the client's permission.
